“We often speak to evade, not to express.”
Research

I catch myself doing this all the time—hedging my words, softening my tone, pretending my real feelings are wrapped in neutrality. It's not outright lying, but it's certainly not the truth.
When I think back on conversations where I've dodged a direct answer, I realize it's usually because I fear the consequence of honesty. Maybe it's embarrassment or maybe it's just easier to let someone interpret things their own way.
Words are supposed to bridge understanding, but I've learned they can build walls too. In trying to protect myself, I often forget that real connections are forged in vulnerability, not in avoidance.
The Insight
Human nature bends language into a shield, protecting our vulnerabilities at the cost of genuine connection.
