I've always prided myself on being emotionally in tune, considering it a superpower in navigating life's complexities. But reading this study stopped me cold. Could it be that the very trait I praised myself for also made me vulnerable?
Thinking back, there have been moments where empathy led me astray — trusting a friend who later betrayed me, or investing emotionally in a cause that turned out to be a scam. Those instances, once isolated memories, now lit up like warning signs in light of this new information.
Emotional intelligence was supposed to be my shield, my guide through life's murky waters, but maybe it's also my Achilles' heel. It turns out, emotions, like people, can deceive.
