When Wisdom Gets It Wrong

I’ve often trusted my gut feeling, believing it to be the product of experience and intuition. But too many times, I’ve found myself scratching my head, wondering how things went wrong. The truth is, my gut was not the sage I imagined it to be.
Delving into Kahneman’s work made me realize just how easily our minds can trick us. We rely on heuristics, those mental shortcuts, that are quick but not always accurate. It’s like navigating with an old map—sometimes it leads you to your destination, but other times, you end up at a dead end.
Recognizing this has shifted my perspective on decision making. I now try to step back, question the gut reactions, and consider facts and alternative viewpoints before plunging into action. It's a constant challenge, but it’s also liberating to acknowledge that I don’t have to be a slave to my own misjudgments.
The Insight
True wisdom is not the absence of error but the awareness and correction of cognitive biases.
