Reflection

I never really considered how the soft glow of my phone or the flickering streetlight outside might be meddling with my thoughts and dreams until I came across this study. I always assumed my mind was a fortress, impervious to such subtle intrusions.

But when I started paying attention, I realized how often I'd wake up disoriented after a night with the blinds slightly ajar or my phone charging by the bed. It was as if my mind had been working on a different script all night, guided by the invisible hand of my surroundings.

Now, I’m more conscious of these environmental cues. I dim the lights before bed, turn off screens, and make sure the room is as dark as possible. It feels like reclaiming a small but vital part of my mental landscape—quieting the noise that I didn’t even know was there.

The Insight

Our environment shapes our thoughts and behaviors in ways we often overlook, subtly guiding our cognitive processes while we sleep.
