It's strange how much I rely on language every day, yet so often find myself misunderstood. I can explain my thoughts clearly, at least in my mind, but somehow the message doesn't always land as intended. This happens with people I've known for years, making it even more perplexing.
There was a time I thought familiarity meant flawless communication. I believed the longer you knew someone, the more they'd just 'get' you. So, I was stunned when a close friend completely misunderstood a simple request, making me realize that I often assume too much about mutual understanding.
These experiences have made me more cautious and humble in communication. Now, I try to check in more often and really listen. It's a reminder that even with the words we use daily, there’s a silent gap only patience and care can bridge.
The Insight
Even with a lifetime of words, true understanding requires more than just speaking; it demands listening and presence.
